Cedar fence enclosing the yard of a cottage, Seguin

Outdoor Structures · from $38–$60 per linear ft

Fences and gates in Seguin and the Hill Country

A fence has to stand up to wind, sprinklers, dogs and Texas clay that moves every season. Most fences that lean within five years were built on shallow wood posts. We set galvanized steel posts in concrete at least 30 inches deep, then frame cedar rails and pickets on them, so the part that rots or moves is never the part holding it up.

We build cedar privacy fences, horizontal cedar fences, steel pipe and ranch fences for larger lots, and custom walk and drive gates with steel frames that won't sag. Gates can be hung for automation now or later.

Who it's for

Who this is for

Families with dogs or kids who need a secure yard. Homes on larger lots in Seguin, Helotes and around New Braunfels that need deer or livestock fencing. Anyone replacing a leaning, rotted fence, or adding a gate wide enough to bring a trailer through.

What it costs

What fences and gates costs

$38–$60 per linear ft

for most cedar fences on steel posts; gates priced each

Most cedar privacy fences on steel posts run $38 to $60 per linear foot installed, including removal of the old fence. A 200-foot backyard fence typically lands between $8,000 and $11,500. Walk gates run $900 to $1,800; double drive gates $2,500 to $4,500. Automation is priced separately.

Timeline

How long it takes

Most fences take three to seven days on site.

  1. Site walk and survey check1 visit
  2. Quote and HOA approval1–3 weeks
  3. Old fence removal and posts1–2 days
  4. Rails, pickets and gates2–4 days
  5. Stain and walkthrough1 day, after wood dries

Gates that don't sag

Most gates sag because a wood frame racks under its own weight. Ours are built on welded steel frames with cedar facing, hung on heavy strap hinges from steel posts set deeper than the fence posts. Drive gates over 10 feet get a center drop rod and a ground stop. If you might add an opener, we set the posts, conduit and a concrete pad for the operator during the build so it bolts on later.

Property lines and neighbors

We build to your survey, not to where the old fence was, because old fences are often off by a foot or more. If the fence is shared, we can split the invoice with your neighbor. We call 811 to locate buried utilities before any post hole is dug.

Case study

Pecan grove backyard, Seguin

A flat half-acre under five mature pecans that held water for days, regraded with a French drain, new Zoysia, garden beds and a cedar fence.

“We got 4 inches of rain in an afternoon in June and the yard was dry by the next morning. That alone was worth it. The dogs haven't gotten out once.”

Questions

Fences and gates questions

Why steel posts instead of cedar?

Wood posts in concrete rot at the soil line, usually within 8 to 12 years. Galvanized steel posts last decades. We can cover them with cedar on the visible side if you prefer the look.

Should I stain a new cedar fence?

Yes, after the wood dries for a few weeks. Stain slows graying and cracking and adds years of life. We include the first coat in most quotes.

How tall can my fence be?

Most cities we work in allow 6 to 8 feet in back yards and lower in front. HOAs often set their own limits and styles. We check both before quoting.
